In 2016 ham radio operators Rene Fonseca (NP3O), Pedro Otero (WP4O), Hector Meléndez (KP4FGL) y Alberic Medina (NP3MR) met with the intention of organazing The Vieques Island Amateur Radio Club. The idea was to offer ham radio clases and promote ham radio operation in the island

With the passage of Hurricane Maria, interest in amateur radio is awakened in Vieques. The club's vision expands and moves towards education and preparation.

Today there are many who have participated in the classes and the group of fellow ham radio operators has increased. We remain committed to promoting amateur radio, educating and preparing the community to respond in an emergency.
